Investigative Photograph
A senior Russian army officer has been fatally wounded following an detonation in Moscow, according to reports from authorities.
The event occurred on Monday morning when an explosive device placed beneath a vehicle was set off, resulting in the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.
Sarvarov was the head of the armed forces' unit responsible for operational readiness.
Investigators mentioned that one theory under investigation points to the potential involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. At this time, Ukraine has offered no public response.
Scene of the Attack
Personnel have been sent to the site, which is reportedly in a south district of the city.
Reports indicate the blast occurred in a vehicle lot close to a residential building.
Pattern of Incidents
Since the start of the large-scale conflict in Ukraine, a series of Russian military commanders have been subjected to assaults within Moscow.
This latest event comes after other high-profile incidents, such as:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a car bomb attack in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov died in late 2024 when a explosive hidden on a scooter was detonated remotely.
While a Ukrainian source previously linked Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such assertions are not officially confirmed as a matter of standard practice.
The war has witnessed clandestine operations moving into the streets of the Russian capital.
The investigation into General Sarvarov's death remains underway.
