Alarming Number of Individuals Now Vape, Reports Global Health Organization
In excess of 100 million people, featuring at bare minimum 15 million children, currently use e-cigarettes, fueling a fresh surge of nicotine dependency, per latest global medical data.
Minors are, typically, nine times more inclined than adults to vape, per existing international statistics.
E-cigarettes are propelling a "new wave" of nicotine habit, remarked a senior health representative. "They are promoted as harm reduction but, in reality, are ensnaring kids on nicotine earlier and threaten undermining generations of improvement."
Teens Being 'Focused On'
"Millions of individuals are ceasing, or avoiding tobacco consumption due to tobacco control initiatives by countries around the planet," the representative stated.
"As an answer to this strong progress, the tobacco sector is pushing back with new nicotine devices, aggressively aiming at youth. Governments must take action more rapidly and stronger in applying tested tobacco-control policies," the official further stated.
The vaping statistics are a projection since several nations - 109 in total, and many in Africa and Asian regions - fail to collect statistics.
According to the analysis, as of this past February this period, at minimum 86 million e-cigarette individuals were adults, primarily in developed nations.
And at least 15 million adolescents aged 13 and 15 already engage in vaping, according to research from 123 states.
While numerous nations have made efforts to introduce e-cigarette regulations to address youth vaping in recent years, by the conclusion of 2024, 62 countries yet had no measure in operation, and 74 nations had no age limit at which e-cigarettes are allowed to be bought, reports the medical body.
Simultaneously, tobacco usage has been decreasing - from an approximated 1.38 billion individuals in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.
Occurrence of tobacco usage among women fell the largest - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.
With men, the drop was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.
But a fifth of mature individuals internationally yet consumes tobacco.
Smoking is linked to several conditions, including cancer.
Professionals say vaping is far less damaging than tobacco products, and can aid you quit smoking. It is discouraged for non-smokers.
