Daughter of Previous South African President Jacob Zuma Rejects Terror Accusations as Legal Proceedings Commences
The offspring of ex- South African Leader Jacob G Zuma has entered a not guilty plea to terror allegations at the beginning of her legal proceedings in the port city of the city of Durban.
Zuma-Sambudla, 43 years old, is being tried over statements she posted on online platforms several years back during violent protests in South Africa that came after the apprehension of her father.
A week of anarchy in several parts of the country in the summer of 2021, including looting and arson, caused at least 300 dead and led to damage worth an approximate $2.8 billion (£2.2bn).
Zuma-Sambudla has been accused of fuelling this unrest and is charged with charges of encouragement to commit terrorism and civil unrest.
Background of the Proceedings
The demonstrations were focused in the regions of Gauteng region and KwaZulu-Natal province and were triggered by the former president's detention for ignoring a court order to give evidence at an inquiry into accusations of impropriety while he was in power.
Ms Zuma-Sambudla has consistently rejected the charges against her, with her lawyer in the past describing the prosecution's legal argument as unsubstantiated.
She has also repeatedly claimed the allegations against her were an attempt to address political disputes with her dad after he started his own party and ran against the African National Congress.

This was supported by the Jacob Zuma foundation, which claimed the legal matter was an "misuse of authority" and a "organized effort" of "political and familial harassment" against the former president and his family.
A small number of backers from her group, her party, turned up outside the KwaZulu-Natal high court, while her dad and other group representatives were present at the proceedings inside.
Her legal team has stated that the evidence presented by prosecutors is insufficient and lacks concrete evidence for a criminal finding.
