Superbug Threat Creates Major Health Threats

Other Solutions and Long-term Outlook

Experts recommend straightforward agricultural measures that should be tested initially, such as planting crops further apart, cultivating more hardy strains of crops and identifying diseased trees and quickly removing them to halt the pathogens from spreading.

The legal appeal gives the regulator about half a decade to respond. Previously, the regulator prohibited a chemical in response to a parallel regulatory appeal, but a judge blocked the agency's prohibition.

The organization can implement a prohibition, or must give a explanation why it refuses to. If the regulator, or a future administration, fails to respond, then the organizations can file a lawsuit. The process could last many years.

“We are pursuing the prolonged effort,” Donley remarked.
