Jude Bellingham Must Eliminate the Nonsense to Secure a Key Place With Tuchel.
For Bellingham to hopes to force his way into the English best starting eleven, he would be wise to eliminate the nonsense. His reaction after noticing that the substitute board was being shown after an evening of mixed performance in the match against Albania fell short of expectations.
"I don’t want to overstate it but I hold to my words 'attitude matters' and respect towards the teammates who substitute on," commented the coach. "Decisions are made and you have to accept it when you're on the field."
The midfielder must understand. There was no call for a strop. The captain had only moments earlier made it the national team leading by two in an inconsequential fixture, the game had six minutes to go and the player, following an inconsistent display, had just been booked for bringing down Armando Broja. This could scarcely be called a debatable decision. In fact it would have been unwise for the head coach to keep Bellingham on the pitch because it was possible he would be suspended of the first match of the competition by getting a another booking.
Drawing Attention on Himself
But Bellingham made himself the center of attention. No one could overlook the young midfielder's frustration upon understanding that his replacement was ready for another player. His arms went up in exasperation and although he shook Tuchel’s hand after making his way to the bench it was clear that the head coach was displeased.
This is the challenge facing Bellingham. He praised his teammate for providing the assist for the captain to score his second goal, but his other actions was self-defeating. There was no chance protesting was going to change Tuchel’s mind. The coach has talked so much about honoring the team structure and the value of acting professionally.
Facing Examination
He, left out of the previous squad, has faced close inspection after returning to the fold recently. Practically he has been on trial and his actions haven't benefited him with his response to coming off the pitch as England rounded off a perfect qualifying campaign by defeating a tough opposition from their opponents.
Tactics and Formation
This implies it's unclear on whether England perform optimally when Bellingham plays. The performance was not definitive. Tuchel tried new things from the manager in the beginning. He has given the team organization and direction lately, using a defensive midfielder, a box-to-box player, an attacking midfielder and specialist wingers, but the approach changed against Albania. Jarell Quansah was handed his international debut, Wharton made his first start at this level and the role of Stones as a part-time midfielder created a faint echo to City's team that won three trophies.
Inconsistent Display
Bellingham had ups and downs. He set up a shot for Eze in the latter period but frequently appeared trying too hard. He made many hurried and errant passes. A pointless clash with an Albania midfielder at the beginning. England were ragged during most of the second period. A scoring chance for the opponents followed Bellingham gave the ball away. The yellow card occurred when he lost the ball to Broja and fouled the former Chelsea striker.
Squad Strength Shows
Ultimately the squad's strength proved crucial. The coach brought on the Manchester City player, who seemed better suited to the position occupied by Bellingham in the opening period, and Saka. In time Saka delivered a corner kick for Harry Kane to score the first goal. It was a reminder that corners and free-kicks are going to be vital at the World Cup.
Connection Remains
Nevertheless, the focus was on Bellingham. The brilliance of Rashford's cross for Kane's goal was partly forgotten in the ridiculousness of the player change. When the match concluded, all eyes were on him. Tuchel walked up to his side and pushed Bellingham in the direction of the away supporters. The bond between them remains intact. The coach isn't ready to discard the player just yet. Yet whether he is willing to grant him a starring role remains in doubt.
