Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Currently Unavailable
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
Rice missed the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that left multiple people hurt. He was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
