Trump Hikes Duties on Canadian Goods In Response to Reagan Ad
President Trump has declared he is increasing tariffs on items brought in from Canada after the province of Ontario broadcast an anti-tariff commercial featuring ex-President Reagan.
In a social media post on Saturday, Trump described the advert a "deception" and lashed out at Canada's leaders for not removing it before the World Series.
"Owing to their major distortion of the facts, and unfriendly action, I am increasing the duty on Canada by 10% in addition to what they are currently paying now," he wrote.
Following the President on Thursday withdrew from trade talks with Canada, the Doug Ford stated he would remove the advertisement.
The Province Reaction
Ontario Premier the Premier said on Friday that he would halt his territory's anti-tariff ad campaign in the America, informing journalists that he decided after discussions with the Prime Minister Mark Carney "in order that commercial discussions can restart".
He added it would continue to air over the weekend, during matches for the MLB finals, which features the Toronto Blue Jays against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Canada is the only G7 state that has not reached a agreement with the United States since Donald Trump commenced attempting to charge significant duties on items from major trade partners.

The Ronald Reagan Foundation, which is responsible for preserving the late president's legacy, had condemned the advert for using "selective" audio and video and stated it falsified the former president's speech. It further noted the Ontario government had not obtained permission to use it.
Current Disputes
In his update on his platform on the weekend, the President claimed that the advertisement should have been pulled down sooner.
"Their Ad was to be taken down RIGHT AWAY, but they kept it broadcasting recently during the MLB finals, aware that it was a LIE," he wrote, while flying to Malaysia.
Doug Ford had previously pledged to run the Reagan advert in each GOP-controlled area in the United States.
The two Donald Trump and Mark Carney will be attending the Association of Southeast Asian Nation in Southeast Asia, but Donald Trump informed the media traveling with him aboard Air Force One that he does not have any "desire" of conferring with his Canadian counterpart during the trip.

The advertisement is not the sole way that Ontario – home of the Blue Jays – is using the MLB finals as a stage to criticize Donald Trump's import taxes.
In a clip posted on Friday, Ford and California Governor Newsom humorously agreed on stakes about which club would win the finals.
Each official frequently bantered about tariffs in the video, with the Premier vowing to deliver Newsom a tin of Canadian syrup if the Los Angeles team succeed.
"The duty might cost me a few extra bucks at the crossing these days, but it'll be justified," he stated.
In answer, the Governor requested Ford to restart enabling American beverages to be sold in regional alcohol shops, and pledged to provide "California's premium grape drink" if the Blue Jays triumph.
